Everything you need to know about the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ)

Air pollution is increasingly hitting the headlines as a big issue and is being linked to the worsening of conditions such as asthma and COPD. It is even linked to thousands of deaths every year.

To clean up London’s air, City Hall wants to reduce nitrogen oxide and particulate matter levels in the air; as such, it has decided to introduce a ULEZ, which will work alongside the existing Congestion Charging Zone.

How it will work?

The ULEZ will be rolled out in a three-phased approach. From 8 April 2019, the zone will come into effect in central London; from October 2020, it will spread out to cover the whole capital for larger vehicles. All vehicles London-wide will be included from October 2021.

If a car does not meet the new emissions standards, the driver will be charged £12.50 per day on top of the congestion charge. ULEZ charges are in effect 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Failure to pay the ULEZ charge will result in a penalty of £160, which is reduced to £80 if you pay within 14 days.

Who has to pay?

Not everyone will have to pay the charge, especially electric vehicles; for example, using a Tesla chauffeur service will avoid having the charge passed on as an additional cost.

Avoiding the ULEZ charge is not the only reason to choose an electric vehicle service, of course. Aside from being safe in the knowledge that you are not adding to harmful emissions when using a Tesla chauffeur service, for example, you can also rest assured that you are enjoying the very best in comfort and safety.

From the ground up, the Tesla Model S is designed for safety and is the most exciting saloon on the road. With unequalled performance delivered through the unique all-electric Tesla powertrain, the Model S goes from 0 to 60mph in just 2.5 seconds. It comes with autopilot capabilities that are designed to make your journey not only safer but also stress-free.

The Model S also features a medical-grade HEPA air filter system that removes almost 100 per cent of exhaust pollution. By travelling in this model, you know that you are neither adding to exhaust pollution nor breathing it in.

In comparison, the Model X is the quickest, most capable sport utility vehicle in history and was the first SUV to receive a five-star US NCAP safety rating. With all-wheel drive and a 100kWh battery providing a range of 351 miles, the Model X has ample seating for seven adults and all their gear. It is also ludicrously fast, accelerating from 0 to 60mph in 2.9 seconds.

Regardless of the new ULEZ, those opting for a Tesla chauffer service will ensure they travel in ultimate comfort and style without it costing the earth.
