Concept
The Tesla concept is truly an amazing one: build a totally all-electric car with zero emissions, acceleration faster than the Porsche 911, silent and powerful and spectacular for the man who loves to drive. What’s not to like? And what is even better, these luxury cars are available for rental. Just imagine: you have an important business trip and want to impress business associates. Pull up in a Tesla and the contract is in the bag. These luxury cars are widely available throughout the UK for rental and will provide you with a surreal experience you will never forget.
There are various cars to choose from. The Tesla Model S hit the British roads in 2014 and is designed to be the safest car on the road, with acceleration 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. The Tesla Model X, however, is not only the safest but also the fastest sports utility car in history. With all-wheel drive and seating for up to seven adults in three rows, it is the first SUV ever to achieve a five-star safety rating in every category. Then we have the new cars on the block: the Model 3, the newly affordable premium saloon with many of its siblings’ features; and the Model S P100D Sedan, proven to be the quickest-accelerating production car in the world, beating the Ferrari, Bugatti, Lamborghini and Porsche with 0-60 in 2.24 seconds.
Battery
Tesla cars are powered by lithium-ion batteries, and Tesla produces them in their very own gigafactory in Nevada, employing over a 1000 full-time employees. The factory is in its early stages of production and when completed in 2020 will employ some 10,000 employees. The new 100 kWh hour battery pack will extend the performance range from 290 miles to beyond 300 miles.
Tesla Superchargers are free charging stations strategically positioned around the country to minimize stops and positioned near to amenities. They provide 170 miles of range in as little as 30 minutes – the time it takes to get a coffee. The best way to charge is from your home overnight, so the car is ready to go the next morning. Every Tesla comes standard with adapters to plug into household outlets. A night-time battery charge on a standard tariff costs about £4.50.
Tesla rental is a brilliant way of getting behind the wheel of one of these super cars. Rental is available to almost any driver over 25 with a full driving licence from about £120 per day. Most companies hold fleets of cars and, for a very special occasion, you can also hire a chauffeur.
Tesla cars are built for safety, zero emissions and comfort, and the company continues to be innovative, making improvements and pushing technology to the limit. The company is currently working on an enhanced image-processing system which will take their cars closer to being fully self-driving. How exciting is that? Eight cameras, a radar and 360-degree ultrasonic hardware will allow a fully self-driving capability. It sounds more like something out of Star Wars. Be one of the lucky ones: go out and rent a Tesla.
